Martin Galle

Saturday 7 June 2003

Martin Galle is the grandson of Ernst Goth who was the commander of the section of coast that became Omaha beach.

Researching his grandfather’s life has led him to take an interest in D day. He now brings parties of American soldiers stationed in Germany on trips to Normandy.
his web site is www.omaha-beach.org

He contacted me through this web site and he sugested we meet at D day house on Omaha beach on the 4th june 2003, when he would arrive in time for the ceremonies. I knew he was there before I entered as his red jeep that you can see on his web site was there. As I entered three jeeps drew up outside and a group of dutchmen from the screaming duck web site came in. The first thing one of the Dutch guys said to Martin was "Red’s not the color for a jeep"

With them was Tim Roop . He’d just flown in from the states inspite of the strikes. A few minutes after two germans came in asking for Martin. They’d been in contact by E mail but had never met. They live 30 miles from Martin and had come 500 Miles to meet.

J J, the landlord, was pleased to have all these people from different parts of the world having a convivial pint or two on this site of past great turmoil.
